Marble
A classic calcium-based natural stone with elegant veining, used for floors, vanities and feature walls.
Marble is a metamorphic stone formed from limestone, prized for its veining and polish. It is used for floors, bathroom walls, vanities, tabletops and feature pieces, in polished, honed and tumbled finishes.
Marble is acid-sensitive and moderately porous, so wine, coffee, citrus and acidic cleaners can etch the surface, while oils and coloured liquids can stain. Sealing helps reduce staining, but it will not protect against etching. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar and abrasive products; use a pH-neutral stone cleaner, wipe spills promptly, and use a poultice for deeper stains.

Step 1 What finish is your marble?

Your finish
Flamed marble
This finish is created by torching the marble surface, leaving a rough, matte texture with a slightly uneven feel underfoot. It tends to be quite porous and can suit a natural look, a colour enhanced finish, or a high gloss coating, so choose based on the desired appearance.

Honed marble
Honed marble has a smooth, flat matte surface achieved through grinding, giving it a soft, low-sheen appearance rather than a reflective one. It can be fairly absorbent, so a natural look sealer helps protect without changing the look, while a colour enhanced option can deepen the stone's tones.

Polished marble
Polished marble is ground and buffed to a glossy, reflective surface that shows off the stone's natural veining and colour. It's less porous than other finishes but still benefits from sealing, with a natural look preserving the shine or a colour enhanced sealer adding richer depth.

Sandblasted marble
Sand blasting gives marble a rough, pitted texture by blasting the surface with fine abrasive particles, creating a tactile, non-reflective finish. This finish tends to be quite porous and absorbent, so a natural look sealer is recommended to help reduce staining while keeping the original appearance unchanged.

Textured marble
Textured marble has an uneven, tactile surface that offers better grip underfoot, often used where slip resistance is a priority. It can be moderately porous, and a natural look sealer helps protect the stone from staining without altering its rugged, original appearance.

Tumbled marble
Tumbled marble has rounded edges and a worn, slightly pitted surface created by tumbling the stone with abrasives, giving it an aged, rustic feel. It's generally quite porous, so sealing matters, with options including a natural look, a colour enhanced finish, or a high gloss coating depending on the style desired.
