Mother of pearl
Iridescent shell tiles, usually small mosaics, used for feature walls, splashbacks and bathrooms.
Mother of pearl, or nacre, is the shimmering inner layer of shells, cut into thin pieces and set as mosaic tiles for feature walls, splashbacks and bathrooms.
It is calcium-based and delicate, so acids and harsh chemicals can dull or etch the surface. Avoid acidic and abrasive cleaners and clean gently with a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth. Sealing the tiles and grout helps reduce staining and grout haze.

Step 1 What finish is your mother of pearl?

Your finish
Polished mother of pearl
A high polish is buffed into the shell surface to bring out mother of pearl's natural iridescence and smooth, glassy feel. It tends to be dense but can still absorb grime into tiny surface pores, so a natural look sealer helps protect the shine without altering its soft, lustrous appearance.
