Quartzite
A hard metamorphic stone formed from sandstone, used for benchtops, floors, cladding and paving.
Quartzite forms when sandstone is transformed by heat and pressure into a hard, crystalline stone. It is used for benchtops, floors, stacked-stone cladding, feature walls and outdoor paving, and ranges from white and grey to gold and rust tones.
Porosity varies widely between quartzites, and some can absorb oil and water more than expected. Sealing helps reduce staining and makes cleaning easier, particularly on benchtops and outdoor cladding. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner, and note that some stones sold as quartzite contain calcite, so test acidic products first.

Step 1 What finish is your quartzite?

Your finish
Honed quartzite
Honed quartzite has a smooth, matte surface created by grinding back the natural shine, giving a soft, flat appearance with a slight texture underfoot. This finish tends to be fairly absorbent, so sealing helps reduce staining, and suits either a Colour Enhanced look for richer tones or a Natural Look that leaves the surface unchanged.

Your finish
Polished quartzite
Polished quartzite is ground and buffed to a glossy, reflective surface that shows off the stone's natural crystals and veining. It can be less porous than honed stone but still benefits from sealing, with a Colour Enhanced finish deepening its tones or a Natural Look keeping the glossy surface as is, though it may be slippery when wet.

Sandblasted quartzite
Sand blasted quartzite is treated with high-pressure sand to create a textured, slightly rough, matte surface with good grip underfoot. This finish tends to be more porous, so sealing helps reduce staining while keeping the stone's original appearance with a Natural Look.
