Slate

Slate is a metamorphic stone that splits into thin layers, giving it a naturally textured, cleft surface. It comes in charcoal, grey, green, rust and multicolour tones and is used for floors, bathrooms, stacked-stone walls, roofs and outdoor paving.

Slate is relatively dense but can still absorb oil, grease and dirt, and some slates contain iron that can show rust marks. Sealing helps reduce staining and can enhance colour, with natural, enhancing and gloss options available. Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner, and use dedicated products for efflorescence or old sealer build-up.
